So for besti’s birthday, 6 of us girls decided to go out to eat in Georgetown. It just so happened to be DC Winter Restaurant week so we were in luck. 1789 was a pretentious little restaurant with 5 different dining areas. I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with my loverlies. The food however was a bit lacking. For the prices, the meals weren’t as good as I expected them to be. They also had a no electronic device policy in the dining rooms. Of course, being the young adults we are…we ignored it.


Smoked Salmon Mousse Amuse Bouche
loved the smoky flavor to this. It was a nice complimentary touch to the meal.


The bread was nice and soft on the inside and crispy/chewy on the outside. Just the way I like it.


Steamed Mussels
I believe this was the best part of my meal. You could tell the Mussels were fresh, they didn’t have that fishy smell or taste. The Chorizo was nice and flavorful and the bread slice soaked up the sauce nicely to get every bit of flavor from everything.


Romaine Salad
It was ok…the Parmesan crisp was a nice flavorful touch to the otherwise typical salad.


Cavatelli
besti’s was pretty good I must say. The homemade bacon was wonderfully delicious but the noodles were a bit overcooked. so not al dente.


Sirloin of Beef
The creamed spinach was good. My sirloin was overcooked as well as Silver’s. The Au Gratin was nothing to boast of either.


Rack of Lamb
Nar’s always picks the best…wow…this was cooked to perfection and tasted just perfect. Had to pay an extra $10 for it but it was well worth the extra.


Branzino
I believe it is a Rockfish. The skin was nice and crispy as it was pan-fried and the meat was nice and flaky. A wonderfully flavorful dish. Did not get much of the truffle aroma from the sauce though. I was a bit disappointed about that.


Vegetable Medley
Neet’s vegetable medley was nicely roasted. could have cared less for the brussel sprouts though.


Golden Chocolate Dome
Tasted just like my favorite dessert from Wegmans…oh how wonderfully chocolatey.


Lemon Tart
The souffle was more of a mousse but it was wonderfully tart. The confit tasted like marmalade and the tart was nothing to boast about.

Valhrona Chocolate Truffle
For some reason my picture of this disappeared. It tasted like a Triple Chocolate mousse. again, nothing to boast about.
